Nantume Janet Kezironi Kizito was born in 1917. It is incredible to think of the changes she has seen not only in Uganda but, across the world.

The 100-year-old resident of Kisozi – Buddo Village, Kyengera Town in Wakiso District recently celebrated her birthday party organised by her children and grand children.

He started by giving God the credit for being her source of strength throughout her life.

Residents reacted with shock to the news that Nantume Janet effortlessly reads her bible at 100 years. During the celebration, a state-linked news daily reports that she pulled out her bible and read it.

“What is so surprising is that she still has a strong sense of  sight, hearing and when it comes to reading books, she does it without a hitch.” The news paper said on Monday.

Nantume added that what has kept her healthy includes avoiding oily meals. She told residents to cease eating foods made in hot fat or oil (fried) if they want to follow suit and live long like her.

An average a Ugandan now lives four years older than they lived two years ago, an international report revealed last year.

This report released by World health Organisation (WHO) said that the life expectancy in Uganda jumped from 58 years in two years to 62 years.

Japan tops the log with a life expectancy of 83.7 years while Sierra Leone is at the bottom with 50 years, performing worse than war-torn Somalia with 55.36 years.
