Uganda’s national football team, Cranes, qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last Sunday for the first time since 1978 after beating Comoros.

The triumphant team has on Sunday been rewarded by Pr Aloysious Bujjingo together with the House of Prayer Ministries International.

From a total of 30million shillings handed to the team, each of the 11 players and coach will be getting 1million

“The church is not poor as several people claim. Last time I heard that when someone is broke, they usually refer to him as one broke as a church mouse – we are not rats – we are believers. The proverb that says that “as poor as a church mouse is wrong. It is blasphemy. It is trying to undermine God,” House of Prayer Ministries International senior Pastor Aloysious Bujjingo stated, appreciating the team, let by its head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.

“To further motivate and fulfill our promise, we believe that everyone of you (referring to the players) has the ability to score a goal in the field. On top of what we have given everyone of you, we are adding an extra 2 million to the person (Farouk Miya) that scored the winning goal. And we believe that as God provides, more will come,” he said.

Pastor Aloysious stated that from the assistant coach and the entire technical team, they will be rewarded with 500,000shs.

A total of 37 members of the Uganda cranes crew has been rewarded; 11 players, 7 substitutes, 18 members of the technical crew and coaches.

“We would like to pray for you. May God take you to the next level, so that we do not stay wake to watch the premier league with out any Ugandan,” the pastor said.

Their 1-0 victory secured their place at next year’s finals in Gabon as one of the two best group runners-up. Uganda reached 13 points, thanks to a 35th-minute win by Farouk Miya.

Uganda’s last appearance at the Nations Cup ended in a runners-up spot when they lost to Ghana in the final.
