News of Carol Atuhirwe’s death on Thursday come as a stunning blow to many Ugandans who had long waited to see her return from India smiling with a promising report.

The 31-year-old was confirmed dead a few hours to midnight yesterday by Mr Muhereeza Kyamutetera, one of her caretakers in india.

“Our Atuhirwe Carol has finally gone to be with the Lord. Thanks all Ye for the fight. Details will be communicated later,” Muhereeza posted on Facebook and Twitter.

She saccumed to throat and lung cancer, a condition whose signs became discernible during her second year at Uganda Christian University Mukono.

Even after her death, more heartfelt messages continue to flood her Facebook account, the platform she often used to communicate with most of her well wishers about her health condition.

Two of her late ports receiving more attention by press time include one where she posted the full lyrics of popular hymn, 1000 reasons (Bless the Lord, Oh my soul), which was composed by popular worshiper Matt Redman.

This post came two days after telling her well wishers that she felt “like my hope is lashing out every day.”

“When I was coming to India I had alot of hope, I felt loved. But now I feel like my hope is lashing out every day. GOD please restore my hope.” She wrote.

On her blog, Atuhirwe revealed that It was not until she finished her third year that a visit to Mulago Hospital revealed the worst – that she had throat cancer.

She started receiving treatment until she was referred abroad, but she couldn’t handle the humongous bill, hence recording a video, seeking public help that was posted on Facebook.

Her appeal to the public was heavily responded to by both high and low profile citizens in the country. This gave way to the popular “#savecarol” campaign where about Shs32.2m in car wash proceeds were collected to facilitate treatment for her in India.

From Her Blog: My Last Request from God

I haven’t written in a long time, here I’m asking God to do me one last favor.  God, I wish this comes soon. I crave tasting food, drinking water, having a normal life like other people . Maybe I get a job, then never to cover my neck to hide my pain. That will be my joy scars, my warrior scars, courageous. I wish all this ends. I stop sitting on my bed day by day. Go out some times, visit my friends, take trips etc . Oh God make this last dream come true. Also bless all those that have supported me throughout. Amen
