Brown San, founder of the Africa Charitable and Humanitarian Initiative is organising a charity concert, “Friends of Jesus Concert” scheduled to take place on 13th November, 2016 at Sojovalo Hotel, Rubaga road in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

The 27-year-old, who also doubles as a gospel music singer says that proceeds from this concert will go towards much more than provision of essential necessities to Kisenyi street Children.

Known for harbouring Uganda’s most vulnerable population, many of whom are refugees, residents here live in extremely close quarters, and fewer than half of them have access to clean water, food within their homes.

“Every year towards Christmas we reach out to these children, this is more like their Christmas party. I was privileged this year to have met one gentleman, Sanyu Roberts who has mentored, and works with these street children everyday.” Brown San says.

He adds, “They are education wise challenged. They are in misery. How they settle this is by sniffing paraffin, moving from one dustbin to the other for what to eat. I have been around them. Surprisingly, they are willing to leave streets as long as they have somewhere to settle.”

The ‘Ssubi Lyange’ hit singer will be accompanied by fellow gospel singers; Robinsan, Twina Herbert, Joy Tendo, Dr Suudi and Immaculate Wafula.

He says that Africa Charitable and Humanitarian Initiative is looking at getting where to resettle the ever increasing number of Children flooding the streets of Kampala from Kisenyi.

“We have spotted land, but are making arrangements to see that we procure it off. Recently I went with Robert to Kisenyi, we met them for close to week, preaching and encouraging them. They are welcoming and submissive, yearning for love.”

Brown says that speaking to these children alone will not solve the problem, “However much we impact them yet they are on the streets, they will still go back to the former… they are forced to do anything to survive. These streets are harsh. You have to adapt to certain behaviour to keep living.”

“I met one young boy who openly told me that he had stolen a phone, “I was hungry”, he said to me when I asked why he has to do this. ”

It is free entry to the concert, and gates will be open from 3pm.

“I just don’t want to limit anyone from joining the charity move. Anyone can come and know about our missions, and give it thought, help in any way possible. Whosoever  can contribute anything is highly welcome. They can come along with clothes, food. We are encouraging people to give back to communities.”

The gosple singer is the last born of 3, all boys. He grew up with his mother after being disowned by his father at the age of 7.

Situations were hard for his single mother but thankfully, Brown who is now ministering to God through gospel music has every reason to give thanks.

“2011, God ushered me into the hands of a loving American family; Mr. Donald and Tina Scott. This is where a whole new chapter of my life begun. Meeting them begun the real process of healing in my life. These two became a fulfilling family that I had only dreamt of before. They helped me pay my school fees, house rent, and all the other bills. Only God can bring such favor to one’s life.” He says.

Today, through the NGO he founded, Africa Charitable and Humanitarian Initiative, his dream is to reach out to different kids in society who are suffering and might have gone through a similar situation.
