A recent study conducted by Patmos Christian Contents Group showed when 216 Christians were asked about the app that they used most over a week, 91 percent chose answers such as text messengers, social media, and web searches, and only 9 percent said that they used the Bible app and other devotional apps the most.

The same study revealed that only 35 percent started reading the Bible more since using a smartphone.

West Buganda Bishop, Henry Katumba- Tamale has noted that many people praise their mobile phones and other assets like cars, more than God.

This, he says, is a manifestation of idol worshiping.

In his sermon delivered on Sunday during a fellowship service at Mengo Senior Secondary School, that involved West Buganda Christians who are based in Kampala, Bishop Tamale said he is certain that many people spend a lot money their mobile phones than what they offer to God’s work.

He explained, “If you put a lot of money on bundles and air time, servicing cars, and this money is far much than what you offer in church to do God’s work, then the phone is your God.

“Idol worshiping doesn’t only  mean going to shrines and worship small gods, this [phone worship] too is another form.

The fellowship was aimed at letting the West Buganda Christians who are based in Kampala know about the projects going on in their diocese and the challenges so as contribute money towards their progress.

He urged the flock to always support think about their home areas and always committee themselves to developing them.

His sermon also emphasized on forgiveness during the lent period and asked Christians to forgive those who offend them.

“When you don’t forgive, its is you who is stressed while the offender stress free,” he said.
