Jacob Oulanyah, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament has contributed shs10 million towards the expansion of All Saints Cathedral, Kampala.

This comes days since the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said government will make a Shs500 million contribution towards this project in the Nakasero suburb of Kampala.

Speaker Oulanyah donated the cheque on Wednesday, 07 November 2018, and said his kind gesture to humanity would not be his last contribution, emphasising that “I shall continue supporting the church”.

“What we do here is something that our forefathers had already started doing; so, ours is just a small contribution,” he said adding that, “whenever I travel, I see beautiful churches that no longer have followers. I am glad to do something for our church that still exists”.

Rev. Hilary Jaffu, who led a delegation from All Saints Cathedral to Parliament informed the Speaker that the project will see the construction of a 5,000 seater cathedral, which should be completed in three years.

Jaffu added that the project is at roofing stage, which will mark the completion of Phase 2.

“We are grateful for this contribution; we pray that God blesses you in everything that you do and He is there for your prayers,” he said.

The Cathedral, situated on Nakasero Hill, is the headquarters of the Diocese of Kampala. The Archbishop of the Province of Church of Uganda (Anglican) is also the Diocesan Bishop.

Plans for the current expansion commenced in 2004 under the stewardship of the then Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo, with acquisition of Plots 2, 4 and 6 on Lugard Road in Nakasero.
