We pass mediocrity onto our children

I’m learning that the pursuit of excellence in everything I do is infinitely better than settling for mediocrity.

It might seem obvious that the pursuit of excellence in everything one does would be the surest road to maximizing potential, yet so few of us strive to do just that.

Why is that?

Rather than settle for average, why don’t we give it our all, try our very best, and never give up til the job is done? Why don’t we keep pushing for greater, for better? Why is it so difficult to go the extra mile or put in the extra effort, when doing so is the obvious difference between being merely average versus that of being head-and-shoulders above the competition?

For all parents out their, by accepting mediocrity for ourselves, we teach our children not to expect too much for themselves.

Even if we do our best to encourage them to reach their potential, we won’t be leading by example – we are the exact same as parents who get drunk every night but warn their children not to do the same.

Of course, there’s something wrong with being average. What does God want for you?

In reality, the distance between extraordinary and average isn’t really so much. It’s often measured in inches instead of feet, yards, or miles; in seconds instead of minutes, hours or days; in small percentage points instead of huge numbers.

Pursuing excellence rather than settling for mediocrity is what you’re called to do in life. It is your calling in your work, your career, your ministry, your marriage, and your life in general. You were created to produce excellence.

So press on, don’t ever stop giving it your best, and don’t let the jealous voices around you (or even the small voice inside your head) ever convince you that you aren’t made for LESS.

How to Avoid Being Mediocre

• Keep moving outside of your comfort zone
• If you feel you are living below your potential, you are – do something about it
• Try to avoid spending too much time with negative people
• Do some research on successful people and find out what made them successful
• Stop making excuses and start taking action
• Do something every single day to improve your life
• Never feel guilty about wanting to improve your life and never apologize for it
