Worship House lead Pastor, Wilson Bugembe and other Church leaders in the country have condemned the killing of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga.

Police and parliament on Friday confirmed the brutal assassination of Abiriga who was into his first term as a Member of Parliament having been elected in the 2016 general elections.

The assassins fired bullets at the 62-year-old together with his bodyguard, Saidi Butele, 57, who was also his young brother, near his home at Kawanda in Wakiso district.

Expressing his concern over the murder, Pr Wilson Bugembe posted on Facebook saying “who kills a fellow human being like killing a rat.”

He described the assassins as stone-hearted adding that they should have though about his children, wife, his family and friends.

“Lord, save my country from this shed of blood! Give these killers a new heart and a new spirit like you say in Ezekiel 36:26,” he said.

“Our nation badly needs a new heart! A brand new one Lord,” he added.

Senior Pastor of Christ Witness Church – Ntinda and People’s Development party president Dr Abed Bwanika said he was “deeply saddened” by news of the death of Abiriga adding that he was sympathizing with the family and the entire nation.

Bishop Godfrey Mawa, the president of Commission International Inc. expressed shock over the incident and conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family.

“Oh Lord, have mercy on our land,” he exclaimed.

Moments after he was gunned down, the Observer reported, Museveni called Abiriga’s wife, Sijali Amina.

“The mood at Abiriga’s home is getting wilder. Irate mourners ordered soldiers who had deployed at Abiriga’s home to go away. They accused them of failing to protect Abiriga in life,” the news paper wrote.

Eye witnesses said the MP and his boady guard were killed at about 6:30pm local time by riders on boda boda.

Abiriga was famous for dressing in bright yellow –the ruling NRM party colour– and driving a similar coloured Volkswagen Beetle.

In his condolence message, President Museveni said he has asked the “security agencies to expeditiously find these killers”.
