For the very first time, a sports tournament that seeks to unite, prepare, nurture and promote talent among Christians from various Churches around Kampala and its suburbs has been organised – and there are trophies to be won.

UG Christian News has learnt that Red Code Company, an umbrella body that supports Christian arts, youth ministries and the corporate outreach has organised a basketball tournament for Churches, and 10 (ten) have confirmed participation.

The tournament is slated for 18th-19th May at  YMCA Kampala, and will include live performances from various gospel deejays?

The vision bearer, Shadrack Kuteesa recently told this website Red Code Company is comprised of three initiatives; Red Arts supporting media and entertainment, Red Vibe for youth empowerment and the Red Sofa for the corporates respectively.

Shadrack Kuteesa took off time, again, to speak to UG Christian News about the tournament.

1. What inspired you to come up with the idea of a Church sports tournament?

What inspired me is to create unity among the churches. Irrespective of where we fellowship from we are one body in Christ.

2. Who are the organizers?

Red vibe is the organizer sister brand to Red Sofa. It’s the youth arm under Red Code Company.

3. Which Churches are part, and on why basis were they selected?

Churches expected to participate in the tournament include; Watoto Church, Calvary Chapel, The Worship House – Nansana, Deliverance Church, All Saints Church, Bugolobi Church of the Resurrection, Lugogo Baptist Church, Rez life, VCC.

There was no selection criteria we reached out to most church and those who were interested responded.

4. Is it basketball alone, or other games will be played too?

It’s basket ball alone.

5. Designated venue for the tournament?

YMCA starting 10am.

6. Is there criteria for churches in submitting their teams, say: gender, age, athletic background, role in church (membership) because I could hire a professional out of church to win the tournament.

Criteria is only players belonging to the church between the age of 18yrs and 23yrs and not playing in the league.

7. Is there a reward for the finalist?

There are trophies and medals to be won.

8. Entry is not free, why?

Registration for churches was free, we have performances, DJs to facilitate and other production costs to cover. So the Ush 5000 entrance is to help us do that.
